JOURS DIX-HUIT: If you could have a conversation with yourself in high school, what would you say?

Dear mini-me,
What’s popping? I actually did something like this a while back, writing to you when you clocked 16 but this is something different because you are not yet 16 and you are just getting to puberty.

Do you still have the most humongous crush on Dare Diya, your primary school half caste sweetheart? I know you do, you’ve probably already filled a couples of slums with his name in it. Your friends are going to tease you really bad about it but don’t mind them. It’s going to be alright. You will get a big slap soon from Senior Busola Asafa for spilling water on the floor but not to worry you’ll cry a little but you’ll become good friends soon enough when she becomes your side bunkie.

Have you started feeling the rush of emotions that is making you hate mummy right now? It’s a phase, it will pass – you’ve also stopped attending Church right? Hmmmm… Your young atheist naive self – lol. You’ll laugh at yourself too when you get to this age. It’s fun to reminisce being childish.

Your 25 year old self is now a grown woman that loves God. I’ve made a few wrong decisions.  I’ve broken the vow I made to God to be chaste till marriage. He’s forgiven me but I still feel guilty a lot, so when you get to your 20s, remember it gets harder to not be sexually active; you will feel so many emotions, get horny a lot and it’s annoying trust me – you just want to scream. Lol. It gets harder to say no to a guy then everyone starts talking about marriage and making life difficult with random talks of it. It will be hard for you to make friends in school as you’ll be picked on and bullied a lot.

You won’t even be among the popular girls and you’ll be ridden on a lot, what you have will be taken from you and you’ll be called gullible to your face. It’s just a phase, it’ll pass. Always read and don’t let math be your problem, love it irrespective. Above all keep being kind because it’ll shape the woman you are today. Learn to love God and remember, you’ve grown to become an outstanding young woman irrespective of your mistakes.

Yours lovingly,
Your maxi-me

Stay in God, peace, love, bisou bisou
