Les Enfants

1, 2, 3, … as I counted to 21

I couldn’t help but smile

42 eyes, nostrils, feet, ears, lips and 84 limbs

Is it too much to handle

You’ll ask me and I’ll reply that it is mixed-feelings a juxtaposition of emotions

I am an outstanding mess in their presence and when I’m not I feel the dull ache that comes with missing someone so much

Full of joy and laughter, my heart threatens to burst from the euphoria that is them

How can something so blessed be a source of distress at the same time

You’d ask me and I’ll answer

I don’t know but all I know about these precious hearts is I am in love with them

I am a Cheshire Cat in their midst, my grin belies the frustration I feel sometimes

A worthy cause one would say,

My reward certainly begins here on earth because with them come profound astonishment at the work of the Creator

Their love, Their heart, Their mind all clearly synced in a spring of innocence

Their laugh more precious than the echoing of oasis in a patched land

Peace like a duvet during the cold is the covering they bestow on one

Love like no other, may they always bring comfort to the soul

  1. lol.

A correction though: 21 children equals 21 pairs of eyes, nostrils, feet, ears, lips and 42 pairs of limbs. Or 42 eyes, nostrils, feet, ears, lips and 84 limbs 🙂
