Tell me a story

Tell me a story
Of a girl lost in the woods
Whose innocence was traded for tales of
Happily ever afters

Tell me a story
Of a maiden locked in a dungeon
Whose knights were the ones that sought
Her eternal damnation

Tell me a story
Of a princess trapped by her decisions
Whose heritage was traded
By the prince who woke her with a kiss

Tell me a story
Of a queen clad in a beggar’s attire
Whose freedom was stolen
By her king who banished her from his presence

Won’t you tell me a story?
Of lilies that grew thistles
Of roses entrapped by thorns
Of carnations nestled in weeds

My dreams are nightmares
Brought forth by demons who threaten to destroy
My very existence
So indeed I struggle with these night creatures

Pleading for clemency
A life of peace brought on by freedom to be
Not bondage to do the things that my will compels me to do
To bask in the euphoric feeling of joy untainted by the speech of another

To dream of a future where hope marks its boundaries in my heart
So please, tell me a story
Of my life in reverse, of battles won not lost
Of gallant victories that make my heart jump

I ask o kind one
Pull me in your embrace
Whisper words of comfort
Finish that story my heart has come to know
